In My Grandmother’s Words…

Do you know what a gift you are?

Dear one,

Do you know what a gift you are?

You’ve held your own hand every single day. You’ve witnessed your shame, guilt, fears and anxieties relentlessly over and over again and you’ve held space. You’ve embarrassed yourself, hidden away and made yourself small. And yet, here you are again – wiping your own tears, holding your own breath and praying for another day.

Dear one, do you know what a gift you are?

To have seen, heard and spoken all the things you fear? To have witnessed yourself, as is, feeling alone and isolated. To have hurt yourself and seen yourself bleed. Do you know how brave you are, and have been, to watch yourself in these moments and still choose to wake up every single day?

Do you know what a gift you are? To look yourself in the eyes at least once a day, to tell yourself every day that you love yourself – even if you don’t believe it? Do you know that you already take care of yourself, that you already nourish yourself – even if it’s just one meal, one nap, one line written or one friend you replied to. Do you know that you’ve already shown up every day, just by being? Do you know that you’ve loved yourself enough to keep trying, to keep listening, to keep living and to keep integrating? Do you know how much courage you’ve had to keep going, even when you feel like you’re not enough, you’re never enough and you’re never going to be enough? Do you know that you’ve already surrendered to spirit just by trusting that you could keep going? Do you know that YOU’VE chosen to see beauty, pleasure, and gratitude is as many moments as you could possibly notice? Do you know that you’ve come back to yourself, even if it was just one simple breath? Do you know that you’ve held on to a vision of your greatness, your genius, your potential, your generosity, your service, your kindness every day in-spite of everything?

My dear one, my love – do you know what a gift your are?

In my Grandmothers words is inspired by what I imagined my grandmother would say to me as she guided me through her wisdom. It is an integration of all the grandmother lineages that have been present in my life (Q’ero, Islam, Feldenkrais, Sivananda formally) and extensive academic and experiential inquiry to enrich. I thank the divine and all my teachers and mentors for guiding me and ask for forgiveness for any misinterpretation that is my own.

With love,

Saadia
