In My Grandmother’s Words..

What Else Is There?

Dear One,

What else is there for you to notice?

When you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, afraid – you know what that feels like in your body right?

Your heart beats faster

Your head becomes tense

You start sweating

Your shoulders get tight

That’s okay! It’s happened, it is happening and it may happen again. And so you’re bored with this pattern, you’re tired. I hear you my love.

If nothing will change, has changed or is changing in your mind during this moment of frustration.. can you ask yourself.. what else is there that hasn’t changed?

Have you been able to notice other elements of your experience in your past, present, or projected future?

You are so great at noticing patterns.. you know that.

You’ve noticed patterns of shame, of fear, of anxiety of pain.

Patterns that keep you stuck, that make you feel that it’s the past repeating itself, that you will get nowhere and be no-one.

So dear one, can you use those amazing detective skills

And notice, what else is there? What else has been there? What else could there be?

What moments have you had joy, even within the sadness?

What moments have you celebrated, alongside all the memories you have of your failure?

What moments have you acted, contributed, shared, alongside all the times you kept quiet, shrank or hidden?

When you’re feeling anxious, are there elements of you that are calm, open, free?

Do you have more energy?

Are you able to see more clearly?

Maybe you’re no longer feeling cold?

What about that small voice in the back of you saying,

I AM CALM IN THIS SITUATION

And it is that small voice that IS noticing,

Your heart beating faster

Your head becoming tense

You started sweating

Your shoulders getting tight

Your body heating up..

So my dear one, my love,

You can already notice what is there. Please start to notice what else is there.

You are embodying the full human experience, so please ask yourself, what else is there that I am already feeling?

You’ve got this, dear one.

In my Grandmothers words is inspired by what I imagined my grandmother would say to me as she guided me through her wisdom. It is an integration of all the grandmother lineages that have been present in my life (Q’ero, Islam, Feldenkrais, Sivananda formally) and extensive academic and experiential inquiry to enrich. I thank the divine and all my teachers and mentors for guiding me and ask for forgiveness for any misinterpretation that is my own.

With love,

Saadia

P.S. My love, here is the Wheel of Emotion for your gentle guidance and exploration.
